The Frugal Physician Features

Every once in a while, I like to bring you awesome personal finance content being produced out on the interwebs by fellow finance enthusiasts and experts.  Here are a few great articles I’ve read this week.

Barista FIRE Explained

Here’s an interesting concept to expand the mind- Barista FIRE.  A Financial Independence, Retire Early strategy that uses the fact that Starbucks provides good benefits to retire early but with health insurance.   So, you could make the leap at like 75% on the way to early retirement rather than all the way to FI.

I couldn’t help but imagine myself stopping working as a physician and working as a barista in some beach town, instead.  It would definitely be “most interesting barista” material.  But, how difficult would it be to hold my tongue and not give medical advice when overhearing conversations?  Would it suck to not be able to write scripts for people in need?

Working as a per diem contractor and paying for health insurance on the ACA marketplace would probably make more sense financially and when considering time commitment and freedom.  But, an interesting idea to think about nonetheless.

Living Life to the Fullest

Here’s an interesting perspective from FIRE and Wide.  What happens when we achieve FIRE and retire 20 years early.  How do we make sure we are actually living life to the fullest?  Does pursuing one hedonic activity after another actually bring happiness?  Here is a take from an early retiree about how she prioritizes her activities in early retirement.  It has to do a lot with understanding oneself and being intentional.
